ON this day in history…
…2003, a client of Vera Wang sued the designer for $2 million (£1.2 million) after she stepped on a needle in New York-based Wang’s Upper East Side boutique. Melissa Brennan, who was being fitted for a bridesmaid’s dress, filed a suit in Manhattan’s State Supreme Court claiming that it was unsafe to walk around in the store because of “pins, needles and other sewing supplies” on the floor. The 27-year-old’s lawyer, Max Leifer, said a needle was stuck in Brennan’s foot until she had surgery to have it removed a week later. “They had to go into the foot and pull it out,” he said. Wang was sued again in 2004 and from hearing of the impending court cases, she had a large sign hung in the fitting rooms asking clients to wear shoes as they try on dresses.
